Student Leadership

Student Leadership

Overview

At Lister Community School in Newham, student leadership plays a central role in shaping a positive and inclusive school community. Our student leadership structure provides a variety of opportunities for pupils to develop responsibility, teamwork, and communication skills. The programme is overseen by our Head Boy and Head Girl, supported by their deputies, and allows students to take active roles in school life.

Student Leadership Opportunities:

Our student leaders support a range of school activities, including:

  • Organising and running school events

  • Leading assemblies

  • Peer mentoring and support

  • Assisting with lunch duties

  • Chairing the Student Parliament

  • Promoting a calm, respectful, and tidy school environment

Our House Leadership Teams

The House System at Lister Community School provides vertical tutoring and pastoral support, creating strong communities across year groups. Each House is led by an Achievement Leader, supported by a Pastoral Manager. Student leaders within each House guide and mentor younger students, developing leadership skills while fostering a sense of belonging.

Student Parliament

Our Student Parliament ensures that the student voice is heard and acted upon. It is comprised of:

  • Five representatives from each House (one per year group)

  • Five representatives from Year 11

  • Eleven representatives from each House (one from each form)

  • Senior student leaders

Through these roles, Lister students gain valuable experience in leadership, organisation, teamwork, and communication, helping to prepare them for future academic, professional, and personal success.
