Welcome to Lister

Welcome to Lister

Headteacher: Alice Clay

Welcome to Lister Community School!

At Lister Community School our school motto is Always Aiming for Excellence. As a thriving co-educational secondary school in Newham, East London, we are committed to providing every student with an outstanding education that prepares them for top sixth forms, universities, and successful futures.

We believe all young people in Newham deserve the same high-quality education as students anywhere in the country. That’s why we challenge our learners to work hard, aim high, and excel both academically and personally. We combine rigorous teaching with a safe, calm, and inclusive environment where respect, kindness, and responsibility are valued by all.

We are also committed to being an inclusive school which values every member of the school community, and which gives everyone the chance to succeed.

Our students benefit from a broad and balanced curriculum designed to stretch their potential and open doors to future opportunities. Alongside strong teaching in core subjects such as English, maths, and science, students can study a wide range of creative and vocational subjects, including:

  • Art, Photography and Design

  • Dance, Drama, and Music

  • Computing and Business Studies

  • Spanish and other languages

We are especially proud of our provision in maths and science, where our most talented students follow enhanced pathways that go beyond the national curriculum, achieving top grades and progressing to prestigious post-16 destinations.

At Lister Community School, we believe academic success goes hand in hand with wellbeing. Each year group is supported by a dedicated Head of Year and Pastoral Manager, ensuring every child feels safe, valued, and supported. Form tutor time and assemblies provide structure, while our carefully designed PSHE programme equips students with the skills to thrive as confident, respectful, and active citizens.

Our strong careers guidance helps pupils set ambitious goals and take steps towards fulfilling futures, whether in further education, apprenticeships, or employment.

Lister Community School is proud to be part of Newham Community Learning Trust, a partnership of six schools working together to deliver a world-class education for young people in Newham. This collaboration allows us to share expertise, strengthen opportunities, and ensure that every student benefits from the collective success of our Trust.

We are proud that increasing numbers of families are choosing Lister as their first-choice school. With a rich curriculum, excellent teaching, strong pastoral support, and a culture of ambition, we ensure every student is given the opportunity to succeed.

We warmly welcome you to discover what makes Lister Community School a special place for learning and growth.
